THE DEPARTMENT of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Davao City issued a directive to 182 barangays allowing the use of their facilities for government programs and other public purposes.
In a memorandum (2024-107) dated Nov. 12, 2024, DILG city director Vicky Sarcena reminded barangay leaders of their obligation to make these public resources accessible for activities that benefit the community.
The memorandum highlights that refusal to comply with this directive requires a written explanation from the barangay captain. The explanation must detail the reason for the denial and identify the person who made the decision.
The memorandum comes amid growing concerns about some barangay officials allegedly restricting the use of public facilities, hindering the smooth implementation of government programs.
