THE DEPARTMENT of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) XI initially budgeted P6 million to compensate for the 600 totally damaged and flood-affected houses in Davao Region.
In an interview on Feb. 6, Miguel Palma Gil, DHSUD XI regional director, said the houses totally damaged in the region were reported before the shear line weather phenomenon.
“We are still waiting for the final report but the provinces affected are quite busy with relocation, evacuation, and relief operations, to assess fully how many damaged houses are affected,” Palma Gil said.
Gil said they will immediately submit a request to their central office once they receive the complete data from the Office of the Civil Defense XI.
“A P10,000 rental subsidy sa mga naapektuhan utilized to construct their totally damaged houses,” he said.
He added the Department of Social Welfare and Development will also manage and assist partially damaged houses within the region.
He also stressed they will continuously go after illegal subdivision developers, and had closely coordinated with the region’s Anti-Scam Division.
“We will go after those people because they just sell the lots, subdivide it without road lots, no drainage system, wala lahat,” Gil said.
This will also greatly contribute to flooding in areas when there are no proper mitigating measures in subdivision projects, he said.
