THE DEPARTMENT Department of Education XI is currently conducting an early registration for the school year 2023-2024 to manage the total number of learners and determine the absorptive capacities of schools.
Jenelito Atillo, DepEd XI spokesperson, said the early registration helped them determine possible ways to manage the student population and the number of teachers to hire, classrooms to prepare and other issues to resolve.
“This is to prepare our children, to prepare our teachers, and to make sure that once we open the school year 2023-2024, aduna ma’y mga concerns sila (if they do have any concerns), it would be minimal only, and that we can respond immediately,” Atillo said.
He also said the number of early registration has typically increased, especially after the pandemic.
“I would like to report that the early registrations for our public schools, we have 2,370 public schools all over Region XI. For Kindergarten, we have 57, 581 early registrants, 85, 887 for Grade 1, 66, 694 for Grade 7, and 56, 976 for Grade 11, a total of 267,138 early registrants for school year 2023-2024,” Atillo added.
He said he may be unable to give the exact data for the previous school year, but the early registration showed a pattern of increase in enrollees.
Atillo emphasized that they will stick with the opening of the classes for August even as they continued to receive requests to return it to June.
“I would tell you very honestly that that’s a very difficult thing to do, kay naapektuhan ta pag maayo sa pandemya (I would tell you very honestly that that’s a very difficult thing to do, because we were totally affected by the pandemic). Pero that is the bad side, but the good side is, tungod sa pandemya naka-align na hinuon ta sa international schedule (Pero that is the bad side, but the good side is, because of the pandemic, we are now actually aligned with the international schedule),” Atillo said.
DepEd-XI targets to start the classes for the school year 2023-2024 on Aug. 29, 2023, following the school activities, Oplan Balik Eskwela and Brigada Eskwela.
