Deafening silence

  • Baste challenges Senator Bong Go to speak out on Davao issues

MAYOR Sebastian Duterte singled out Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go for remaining silent amid the issues affecting Davaoeños.

Bong Go is a known political ally who made a name for himself as a close aide and friend of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

“You’re an elected official, you’re supposed to voice out what the people’s needs, and wants [are]. He is in the high position, mas mataas. But you know,  like I said, he has time to redeem himself,” Mayor Duterte said during an interview on SMNI’s “Gikan sa Masa Para sa Masa” Facebook page.

” All of you know kung ano yung nangyari [what happened],” the mayor said.

The Dutertes seemingly are in the crosshairs of the Marcos administration beginning with Vice Mayor Sara Duterte who bludgeoned and sued for the controversial P11-B confidential fund. Congressman Paolo Duterte also blasted the administration for slashing Davao City’s budget by P2 billion, leaving his district only with P500 million.

Meanwhile, former President Duterte’s friend and spiritual leader, Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, is currently in hiding to avoid the arrest warrants against him.

The mayor emphasized that Go needs to demonstrate solidarity with his constituents if he hopes to maintain their support in future elections.

“Because kung gusto nya lang tumakbo ng Senador uli [if he wants to run for Senator again] Then he should show that he is one with the Davaoeños, especially in times like this,” he added.

When asked if Senator Bong Go has abandoned his father, the mayor said “Could be possible, you know politics. you can never guess what will happen next in politics.”

“Bong is a Davaoeño or so he claims di ba?  I voted for him, so this isn’t just about him yung sinasabi ko, not the former chief of staff of the President. I’m talking to him as a voter,” the Mayor further said.
