DCPO: Woman rescued, partner suspect killed in hostage-taking; bystander injured 

POLICE successfully rescued a woman held hostage by her partner along Bypass Road in Barangay Catalunan Pequeño around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept 4.

Meanwhile, the suspect was killed after he resisted arrest, and a civilian was also injured during the incident.

Captain Hazel Tuazon, the spokesperson of the Davao City Police Office, identified the victim only as alias Sabejon, a woman of legal age, single, and a transient resident of Block 14 Lot 23, Wellspring Village 2, Barangay Catalunan Pequeño.

The other victim was identified as Ian Regner, 24, single, self-employed, and a resident of Pag-Ibig, Barangay Catalunan Pequeño.

The suspect was identified only as alias Sator, a male of legal age and a transient resident of Block 14 Lot 23, Wellspring Village 2, Barangay Catalunan Pequeño.

Personnel from the Davao City Police Office, along with the DCPO Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT), responded to a call about an alleged hostage-taking incident at Keith Williams Bypass Road, Barangay Catalunan Pequeño, Davao City.

The suspect resisted the responding police officers by drawing his firearm, prompting the officers to defend themselves by returning fire.

Both Regner and the suspect were rushed to the nearest hospital for immediate medical attention.

In an interview on Wednesday, Tuazon said the suspect and the victim had a misunderstanding.

“The suspect also is on the [drug] list of the Baliok Police Station,” she added
