DCPO deploys 262 personnel for Hugpong election rally

THE DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) and Special Weapons and Tactics unit deployed 262 personnel who will secure the miting de avance of Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod in Roxas Avenue in the city, on Friday, May 9.

Speaking on Wednesday’s Davao Peace and Security Press Briefing held at The Royal Mandaya Hotel, Captain Hazel Caballero, the spokesperson of DCPO, said they are duty-bound to provide security even without an official request from the parties involved. 

“That’s why the Davao City Police Office is trying its best that every rally that will happen in the city, there will be no problems encountered and no reported incidents,” she added.

“And it is expected that even though there is no presence of the vice president, the Davao City Police Office is 100 percent ready to provide security,” she further said.

Meanwhile, the City Transport and Traffic Management Office announced the road closure of selected streets for the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod and Partido Demokratiko Pilipino miting de avance on May 9.

The streets will be temporarily closed for vehicular traffic on May 9 from 8 a.m. until the program ends. 

Affected streets include C.M. Recto Avenue (From Palma Gil Street to Magsaysay Avenue); Roxas Avenue (From C.M. Recto Avenue to C.Bangoy Street); Magsaysay Avenue (From C.M. Recto Avenue to C.Bangoy Street); and C.Bangoy Street (From E. Quirino Avenue to Palma Gil Street)

The road closure was passed by the City Council on Tuesday with Resolution No. 04256-25, Series of 2025, and City Ordinance No. 0807-25.

In the rerouting plan, there will be two-way traffic along C.M. Recto Avenue, from Cor. Magsaysay Avenue to Palma Gil Street.

No right turn allowed on May 9 from 8 am- 12 pm in Magsaysay Avenue, instead vehicles are advised to go straight towards CM Recto Avenue and take a right to Palma Gil Street

All vehicles going to Ponciano rotunda (C. Bangoy) must take left to Quirino Ave, take right to Daang Maharlika Highway, and take right to Palma Gil Street.
