- Over 100 residents displaced as 16 homes destroyed in Matina Gravahan
A MASSIVE early morning fire destroyed 16 houses in Matina Gravahan, Barangay 76-A on Thursday, July 30, leaving over 100 residents homeless.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Davao City Fire District, the incident occurred at Purok 3, and was reported around 2:14 a.m.
Fire Senior Inspector Frances Mae Sendrijas, spokesperson for the Davao City Fire District, said that firefighters immediately responded to the scene, raising the blaze to the 3rd alarm as the fire spread rapidly through the dense residential area.
Despite the severity of the fire, emergency response teams reported zero casualties, injuries, or fatalities.Firefighters brought the blaze under control around 4:17 a.m. before officially declaring “fire out” at 5:01 a.m.
Initial assessment from local disaster management authorities revealed the following:
- Families Displaced: 41 familiesIndividuals
- Affected: 101 individualsStructures
- Damaged: 16 homes totally destroyed
Meanwhile, BFP arson investigators are determining the origin of the fire. The total estimated cost of property damage has yet to be finalized as of press time.
The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) is assisting the displaced families currently taking shelter in designated evacuation centers.
