Davaoeños told: You can visit Hong Kong but remain cautious

Davaoeños visiting Hong Kong are advised to stay out of the protest sites to avoid getting caught in the middle of violence.

In an interview with TIMES during the Kapehan sa Davao at SM City on Monday, Mindanao Tourism Council (MTC) executive director Jonallier Perez said there was already a report of a Filipino arrested on suspicions of taking part in the demonstrations.

“Keep your travel documents always, that is our advice always to the tourists. And stay contact with our consulate in Hong Kong,” Perez. “Stay out of Hong Kong politics, it is not our business in the same manner that we want foreigners to stay out of the Philippine politics also.”

Meanwhile, Regina Rose Tecson, Davao City Tourism and Operations Office (CTOO) head, said the city is not discouraging Davaoeños from visiting Hong Kong but they should be cautious and vigilant while on vacation there.

With the ongoing political impasse in Hong Kong, over 100 flights were already cancelled at the Hong Kong International Airport. The Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and Airasia are also cancelling and postponing the flights to the east Asian country.

The protests started in June over the possible passage of extradition bill that would allow Hong Kongers to be extradited to China.
