Davao successfully hosts MICECON 2023

With the highly successful Davao City hosting of the MICECON (meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions conference) last March 1 to 3, the city has validated once agaib its capacity as one of the country’s leading MICE destinations.

The city hosted MICECON exactly a decade ago. 

“Davao has raised the bar for MICECON, having held such an excellent exhibition of the potential the Philippines can have to be the leading MICE destination in Asia,” Department of Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco said during the opening ceremonies.

Vice President Sara Zimmerman Duterte also congratulated the people behind MICECON. She was one of the leading proponent when Davao City successfully bid to host the event back in 2019 when she was still the City Mayor. However, the pandemic halted the holding of MICECON for two years. 

“For Davao City, being the host of this year’s MICECON 2023 is an opportunity to showcase one of the tourism gateways in Mindanao,” Duterte said during the closing ceremony. 

She also encouraged the MICE stakeholders to work together in order to revitalize the tourism sector, stating the importance of offering diverse packages and incentives, and bringing in investments that gives importance on service quality, public health and transportation that will help enrich the immersive experience of tourists. 

Davao City is home to, at least, 50 MICE facilities that can efficiently meet the growing demand for venues, accommodation, food, even Halal offerings. 

MICECON is the biggest gathering of MICE professionals in the country that brings together local and foreign participants in learning about various global trends in business meetings from national and international MICE experts and opening a myriad of possible opportunities while experiencing the tourism sites of the host city. 

Aside from visiting Davao’s tourism attractions, the delegates were also able to experience the culture, arts and cuisine of the city and the region during the nightly socials.
