Davao Region non-index crimes rise while index crimes decrease this year 

THE POLICE Regional Office XI reported a noticeable increase in the non-index crimes rate and a decrease in the index crimes rate from January to May this year.

Major Catherine Dela Rey, the spokesperson of PRO XI, told reporters on Wednesday’s Davao Peace and Security Press Corps briefing held at The Royal Mandaya Hotel, that non-index crimes recorded 1,079 incidents, representing a 30.80% increase. 

Dela Rey said the increase in non-index crimes is attributed to the effective enforcement of special laws. The violations of special laws: drug-related offenses, illegal gambling, or violations of firearm regulations.

Meanwhile, index crimes have seen a decrease of 7.99% this year. 

She said there was a decrease of 50 index crime incidents from 626 incidents last year during the same period, down to 526 index crime incidents this year.

Meanwhile, the PRO XI also reported the success of its intensified campaign against illegal drugs in the city.

Based on data from PRO XI, from 5 a.m. on June 26 until 5 a.m. on June 27, six anti-illegal drug operations were conducted, resulting in the arrest of six individuals and the confiscation of shabu and marijuana with a standard drug price of P799,000.

This includes the arrest of the Top 2 high-value individuals during a buy-bust operation yesterday in Purok 4-D, Isla Verde, Barangay 23-C, in this city, resulting in the arrest of an alias “Fredo” and the confiscation of 29 grams of shabu with a standard drug price of P464,000.
