Curfew violation still tops the list of offenses under the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) after breaching the 1,000-mark to date.
OVER ONE thousand curfew violators in the region were fined for curfew violations from the start of the enhanced community quarantine on April 4 until May 3,
According to the data from the Police Regional Office XI, authorities already fined more than 1,000 individuals for violating the 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew, while they arrested another 847 individuals for staying out of the house within the prohibited period.
In the same data, 166 were arrested for disobedience to a person in authority, and 25 people were arrested for hoarding and profiteering of medical supplies and essential goods, with a total estimated value for the confiscated items at P994,118.
Meanwhile, 184 were arrested for violating the liquor ban, 79 caught for gambling, 17 people were arrested for illegal cockfighting, and 15 drivers were ticketed for multiple violations like operating under the ECQ or charging exorbitant rates from commuters.
Also, the authorities conducted 167 operations on illegal drugs, resulting in 139 apprehensions and the seizure of P1.9-million worth of shabu and marijuana. Four people are also facing a case for carrying unregistered firearms.
Maj. Eudisan Gultiano, the PRO XI spokesperson, explained that more people were arrested during the ECQ period, which directs authorities to arrest or impose a fine rather than letting violators go after reminding them to follow the rules.
Previously, from March 14 to April 3, during the community quarantine, 263 curfew violators were arrested and 69 were fined, while 86 others arrested for total disobedience.
Also, eight suspects were arrested for hoarding, profiteering, manipulation of prices of medical supplies and essential goods/items. The value of the confiscated items reached P147,360.
There were 104 arrested for liquor ban during the community quarantine period, 36 suspects caught for illegal cockfighting, and 62 arrested in anti-drug operations with a total shabu yield of P4,467,691.
