THE DAVAO Oriental Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) launched the “Davao Oriental Bayanihan” program at Sitio Logdeck, Barangay Maragatas, Lupon town on Jan. 30.
Davao Oriental Governor Nino Sotero L. Uy and Brigadier General Oliver C. Maquiling, commander of the 701st Infantry (Kagitingan) Brigade under the operational control of the 10th Infantry (Agila) Division, led the activity.
Major Mark Anthony Tito, spokesperson of the 10th Infantry Division, said the initiative distributed essential services to the community, including support for agricultural activities, social services assistance, free medical and dental programs, and driver’s license renewal.
During a one-on-one forum, local authorities addressed concerns raised by Sitios and Barangay leaders.
In his speech, Maquiling emphasized the positive impact of Executive Order No. 70, leading to the liberation of Barangay Maragatas from the influence of the Communist Terrorist Group.
“Convergence kini aron mahatag ang kinahanglang serbisyo dili lamang sa seguridad but serbisyo. Ninaog ang mga kaigsoonan nato nga dating rebelde ug nahimo ng parte sa atong peaceful nga lungsod (This is what convergence is, we aim to deliver not only security interventions but comprehensive services for lasting peace in the community),” Maquiling added.
He added that former rebels in the province, now members of the Davao Oriental Former Rebels Association, are reaping the benefits of various interventions, leading to a more abundant life.
Meanwhile, Governor Uy stressed the importance of uplifting the morale of residents in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas who have overcome the negative influence of the communist terrorist group.
“They have fewer opportunities in life. These are the communities we are prioritizing. They should be at the forefront of our government programs because they are the ones who need our services the most,” Uy added.
The Davao Oriental Bayanihan program is set to extend its reach to other poor areas in the province in the coming months, continuing its mission to bring positive change and development, maintaining the gains of an insurgency-free province.
