THE DEPARTMENT of Agriculture XI (DA) said hog farms remained stable despite reports of African Swine Fever in certain areas in Davao Region.
Dr. Karl Laurence Pineda, DA XI alternative livestock program foca person, said livestock production could meet the rising demand for the holidays.
Pineda said the ASF areas are already contained as they implemented mitigating factors to combat the disease and help the affected hog growers.
DA XI said the farmers can produce an average volume of around 3,000 metric tons.
Dr. Armie Capuyan, DA XI regional disease monitoring and surveillance head, said they still received reports of ASF cases but these are “minor incidences.”
Meanwhile, the DA XI is working with local government units to conduct surveillance activities on several diseases, including the Avian influenza (Bird Flu).
As of June 2024, 466 municipalities and cities in Region XI had shifted from Red (Infected zones) to Pink zones (ASF-free zones), while 98 areas had gone from Pink to Yellow (surveillance zones). Most areas in the region are identified as Pink and Yellow zones while Davao City still remains in the Yellow zone.
The last ASF incidence was reported in three barangays located in Davao Occidental last August.
