Davao Light honors scholars, board passers

THE DAVAO Light and Power Co., Inc. (DLPC), an AboitizPower subsidiary held a Kumustahan event honoring graduated scholars and recent board exam passers.

Nearly 50 scholars attended the event held at DLPC’s power utility office in C. Bangoy Street, Davao City on Sept. 22.

Last June 2023, only 2,924 out of the 4,784 exam takers completed the architecture board exams, which three of the recognized scholars, Raymund Naungayan, Jonas Meneses, and Paulo Gallardo, recently passed.

Other graduates now serve as licensed civil, mechanical, electrical, and geodetic engineers, dietitians, and qualified teachers.

Rodger Velasco, DLPC president said they are grateful to hear stories of the scholars supporting themselves, their families, and communities through their professions after DLPC supported their education.

“You have embodied the aspirations of Davao Light’s scholarship program,” he added.

Jonas Meneses, one of the DLPC’s scholars architecture board passers, said the scholarship was a big help since he was initially struggling with their family’s condition.

Pasalamat ko sa Davao Light and sa tanan nga involve ani kay tungod sa ilang hands, nakaskwela ug nakahuman gyud ko,” Meneses said.

Since their scholarship program started, Davao Light and its social development arm, Aboitiz Foundation Inc., have been supporting more than 100 scholars in college by providing financial assistance to each beneficiary for their school needs such as tuition fees, books, uniforms, and miscellaneous expenses.

The scholarship program is in line with the fourth Sustainable Development Goal of the United Nations, which is to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
