The City Council approved on suspended rules in Tuesday’s session the proposal to give a P1 million aid for the flood-stricken sister city of Marikina.
The money was taken from the 30% Quick Response Fund (QRF) of the city government for 2018.
Prior to tropical storm “Karding,” Marikina is still in the process of recovering from tropical storms “Inday” and “Josie” earlier this year.
The flooding brought by the southwest monsoon and triggered by Karding affected 10 barangays and displaced over 3,000 families of the city. The flooding reached third alarm on Sunday and prompted 16,349 individuals for evacuation.
Since January this year, the city government has already provided aid to 11 different calamity-stricken cities and provinces.
Karding exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday but rains persisted until Sunday due to the monsoon.
The flooding claimed two lives and caused severe millions of damage to properties.
