MONTEVISTA town in Davao De Oro will be the first in the Philippines to harness green hydrogen technology from S&E Solutions Korea for its power supply requirements.
On Wednesday, Art Lumagod, Philippine liaison officer, said the renewable energy project sourced in the US would supply the power needs of the entire province. It will be one way to combat climate change and address the municipality’s severe supply shortage and high electricity costs.
Improving the power situation will also contribute to the economic development in Davao de Oro and Mindanao.
“This is a good chance for us to really realize that the renewable energy need of our country is long overdue, and with the coming of the green hydrogen technology and an investor like S&E Solution coming in is a really big positive development for us,” Lumagod said.
Atty. Tong Soo Chung of S&E Solutions assured that the energy production would have zero carbons that would otherwise harm the environment.
The proposed power plant will sit on an 11-hectare property owned by the local government. They plan to begin with 10 megawatts and increase to their 50 megawatts target over time.
Engr. Jun Basalo, the consultant of Montevista mayor, said the project would hopefully commence within the year.
Meanwhile, an S&E Solutions representative visited the municipality on May 3 to sign a memorandum of understanding with the local chief executive to realize the project.
