THE DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) reported seizing over 300 firearms and arresting 84 individuals in operations conducted during the period of the 2025 National and Local Elections between Jan. 12 and June 7, 2025.
According to a report released by the DCPO, a total of 8,942 Comelec checkpoints were conducted during the period, amassing over 52 million total man-hours. These operations involved 72,010 Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel and 1,006 Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)/PNP personnel in joint checkpoints.
The checkpoints were categorized as:
- DCPO established checkpoints: 6,081 conducted, with 48,867 PNP personnel deployed, accounting for 28,929,264 man-hours.
- Random/Spot checkpoints: 2,276 conducted, with 18,312 PNP personnel deployed, totaling 2,710,176 man-hours.
- Joint AFP/PNP/Comelec checkpoints: 585 conducted, involving 4,831 PNP personnel and 1,006 AFP personnel, contributing 20,733,024 man-hours.
The report also highlighted significant achievements in the campaign against illegal firearms and other deadly weapons:
DCPO spokesperson Captain Hazel Caballero said 66 positive operations were conducted, 84 persons/violators were arrested, 69 firearms were recovered or confiscated, two gun replicas were confiscated, and 237 firearms were surrendered or deposited.
Also, based on the report, one deadly weapon was recovered/confiscated, and 15 explosives were surrendered/deposited/confiscated.
The DCPO emphasized that these figures underscore the sustained efforts of law enforcement agencies in ensuring peace and order by curbing the proliferation of illegal firearms and maintaining security in the city.
