Davao Chong Hua High School to celebrate its 100th Year

Davao Chong Hua High School will host three major school events from September 27 to 29 to celebrate its 100-year legacy of excellence and community service.

At the PEP Talk media conference on August 13, Davao Chong Hua High School’s assistant Chinese principal Demmie Ong explained that the centennial celebration aims to honor the school’s century of dedication to its core values – Service, Virtue, and Excellence – and the contributions of the Filipino-Chinese community in Davao City.

“Davao Chong Hua High School is a living testament to the power of camaraderie and unity within the Chinese community,” she said.

The centennial celebration also highlights the school’s institutional excellence and the achievements of its alumni who have helped shape it.

Davao Chong Hua High School Alumni Association advisor Godfrey “Bobby” Yap mentioned that the celebrations aim to further enhance the school, particularly its infrastructure. He added that there are plans to transform Davao Chong Hua High School’s library into an electronic library (E-Library).
He also shared the history of Davao Chong Hua High School and its significance as one of the oldest private schools in Davao City, highlighting its many successes over the years.

The planned events include the Centennial Motorcade and Rally on September 27, the 100th-year Foundation Day on September 28, and the Centennial Celebration Concert on September 29. Each event is carefully designed to reflect the school’s three core values.

The Centennial Celebration Concert, the grandest event of the celebration, is exclusive to alumni and students and will be held at the SMX Convention Center, SM Lanang, starting at 2 pm. One of the highlights of the concert is a performance by renowned Filipino singer and songwriter Jose Mari Chan.
Founded in 1924, Davao Chong Hua High School is the first homegrown Chinese-Filipino school in Davao City to reach the prestigious 100-year milestone. Originally named Davao Chinese High School, it was renamed Davao Central High School in 1976 and finally Davao Chong Hua High School in 2016.
