DA XI notes slight increase in rice prices

THE DEPARTMENT of Agriculture (DA) XI recorded a slight increase in the price for well-milled rice from P38 in the last four weeks to P52 as of this week’s monitoring.

During the Agribiz Forum on Nov. 21, Agnes Cecilia Roble, DA XI Price Monitoring Lead, said one of the factors was the farmgate cost or the price received by farmers for the sale of their crops at the location of farms.

Ang farm rate price medyo positive para sa ilaha, but to our consumers expected jud siya na muapekto nila,” Robles said.

Some of the factors also included hauling, ruling process, and fuel inflations, which all went up.

Robles also stressed that the Davao Region has a 54% sufficiency level for rice supplies, and the government continues to exert efforts to stabilize the rice prices.

“The government is also trying hard to really compensate and complement atoang volume of supply, so mao nang naa ta’y quota sa atong trade agreements,” she said.

The harvest season for rice is from September to November, and farmers are expected to replant next year and quarter.
