THE CITY Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) announced it has completed all necessary preparations for the full implementation of the City Ordinance 0270-23 or the Speed Limit Ordinance of Davao City on Jan. 11.
CTTMO head Dionisio Abude said aside from the vital infrastructure, such as the installation of updated speed limit signage in every 500-meter stretch of road, they also conducted a rigorous information and education campaign for motorists.
Traffic enforcers from the CTTMO, the Davao City Police Office- Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU), and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) were also properly briefed and are now equipped to implement the policy starting this Thursday.
“For the whole month of December, nagpahibalo na ta, naghatag ta’g mga flyers na karong magsugod na ta, gihimo pud nato atong December is nag-install ta og mga signages (For the whole month of December, we have been informing people, we gave out flyers that we will now begin, we also did in December the installation of signage),” Abude said during the “Madayaw Davao” program of the Davao City Disaster Radio on Jan. 5.
“Ready na gyud ta ani. In fact, naa ta’y last na orientation nato karong January 9, ipatigayon ni siya. Kauban na diha ang atoang CITC (City Information and Technology Center), ang City Treasurer’s Office, ang atong PNP ug atong mga motorcycle units na naga-implementar aning atoang speed limit (We are really ready for this. In fact, we have a final orientation on January 9. This will be with the CITC, the City Treasurer’s Office, our PNP and our cycle units who will be implementing our speed limit),” he added.
The Ordinance mandates an 80 kph speed limit for light vehicles and 50 kph for trucks passing through Bunawan-Lasang, Lacson-Buda, and Carabao Monument in Toril- Binugao in Sta Cruz; a 60 kph speed limit for major roads such as from Ulas Crossing to Carabao Monument Waypark, Crossing Panacan-Bunawan Crossing, and within the Davao City Coastal Road; and 30 kph for all feeder/minor roads branching out of these major roads.
Tourist streets will have a 40 kph limit, and 30 kph for trucks while a speed limit of 20 kph shall be followed in all public subdivision roads, barangay roads, and school zones.
The CTTMO Chief reminded motorists that the penalties for violators of the new speed limit are now P1,000 for the first offense, P2,000 for the second, and P5,000 for the third and subsequent offenses.
