As the bicameral conference on the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) is ongoing in Manila, a solidarity event expressing support for a legislation was organized by the All-Out Peace Davao at the Millennium Park, Wednesday.
Randy Ponteras, the spokesperson of All-Out Peace Davao, told reporters yesterday during a rally along Roxas Avenue that they are hoping the draft BBL will be approved without any major changes.
“The people are longing for peace so if the solution for this is to pass the Basic Bansamoro Law (BBL) they should pass it now ,” Ponteras said. “The BBL is our call for peace not only with the Moro but also with the Christians and Muslims.”
The solidarity rally was also conducted simultaneously in three other key cities–Iligan, Cagayan De Oro, and Cotabato—in Mindanao dubbed as “Kongreso Katawhan,” which consists of a people’s congress that mirrors the bicameral conference.
In their press statement, representative from different communities and sectors will pass their own version of a basic law that is hinged on the values of truth and justice, as they look forward to a legislation that addresses social and historical injustices, asserts meaningful autonomy, and affirms the people’s right to self-determination.
In an open letter addressed to the members of the bicameral committee on the BBL issued earlier by members, partners, and allies of All-Out Peace (AOP), numerous sectors have highlighted the importance of legislation that will help “heal the wounds of violent conflict and achieve genuine peace.”
