COLONEL Hansel Marantan, the new acting Davao City Police Office (DCPO) chief, formally introduced himself to Mayor Sebastian Duterte during a courtesy call at Matina Enclaves on Thursday afternoon, July 25.

DCPO spokesperson Captain Hazel Tuazon confirmed that Duterte and Marantan limited their discussions to specific strategies and initiatives to enhance the security in Davao City.

Duterte previously expressed confusion over the PNP’s swift leadership changes within the DCPO, particularly regarding the selection process. Typically, as a matter of courtesy, the mayor is involved in appointing the city director.

However, that did not happen during the recent leadership changes that saw two other DCPO chiefs appointed and replaced within 24 hours.

The mayor’s primary concern centered on the appointment of Marantan, whom he was not familiar with prior to the appointment.

Appearing before lawmakers during a regular session on July 16, Marantan appealed for a chance to prove his worth.

Marantan, in his message during the session, said, “I think the challenge for me now is to prove more to merit your acceptance in Davao City. Obviously, Davao City is a peaceful place to live in,” Marantan said.
