COUNCILOR Edgar Ibuyan Jr. said the truck operator behind the collapse of a bridge in Matina Pangi here will be held liable.
During the Aprubado sa Konseho on Tuesday, Oct. 23, he stressed operators are responsible for the actions of their drivers.
“Of course, reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property, but it will depend on how the investigation goes,” he said.
The truck driver reportedly immediately fled the scene after the accident on Saturday, October 19.
The councilor reported the City Engineer’s Office (CEO) conducted dismantling operations on Monday to avoid additional damage to residents. He added they are communicating with the truck owner.
The barangay council of Matina Pangi requested the landowner on the other side to temporarily allow vehicles to traverse.
According to the investigation, the 10-wheeler truck was traveling along Matina Pangi Road from Carlos P. Garcia Highway towards Barangay Matina Pangi.
Upon reaching Iñigo Village, the driver made a left turn onto the metal/steel bridge, which then collapsed, causing the truck to fall into the river below.
Barangay officials said loaded trucks are not allowed to cross the bridge as it only has a capacity of five tons. It was reportedly already dilapidated prior to the incident.
