A city councilor has asked the City Planning and Development Office to provide copies of a map showing the exact location of any proposal for land use reclassification.
Councilor Alberto Ungab, committee chair on appointments and government reorganization, filed the resolution on first reading last Tuesday, Feb. 11.
“Copies of the map requested shall show the current Land Use Classification of the area proposed,” Ungab said in his resolution, adding that the map should show the location within one-kilometer radius of the identified area.
An existing ordinance provides zoning maps of the areas used for zone classifications in the city. The resolution aims to ensure that the proposed land use for zoning classifications will not cause any inconvenience and disruption to the environment and inhabitants.
Ordinance No. 0549-13 or the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance of Davao City for 2013-2022 provides the zone classifications with the respective zoning maps of Davao City.
The purpose of the ordinance is to “guide, control and regulate future growth and development of Davao City in accordance with its Comprehensive Land Use Plan and define and delineate the land use for Residential, Commercial, Industrial, Institutional, Agricultural, Open Space and other functional areas within the locality and promote the orderly and beneficial development of the same.”
It also cited that the environment, health, sanitation, safety, peace, comfort, convenience, and the general welfare of the inhabitants “must be protected and taken care of.”
“It is of rational significance to look into the vicinity of the land to be reclassified to concur with the provisions of Ordinance No. 0549-13 Series of 2013 or the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance of Davao City for 2012-2022 and other pertinent laws,” Ungab said.
The said zoning ordinance also cited to “regulate the location and use of buildings and lands in such a manner as to obviate the danger to public safety caused by undue interference with existing or prospective traffic movements on such streets and thoroughfares; provide safety from fire, pollution and other environmental hazards to life and property; and ensure the protection and sustainability of the environment taking into consideration (the) climate change adaptation in synergy with disaster risk reduction and management, principles of biodiversity and preservation of historical and cultural heritage in all development processes.
