  • Man arrested for bomb joke in a shopping mall

 

A MAN was arrested on Sunday afternoon after allegedly cracking a bomb joke while entering the supermarket of a shopping mall.

Captain Hazel Tuazon, spokesperson for the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), identified the suspect as alias Nelson, a resident of Purok 9, South Bay, Agdao District.

According to the police report, the supermarket security guard overheard Nelson joking with his companion about having a bomb in his bag. 

Alarmed by the comment, the security guard detained the suspect and called for police assistance. 

PCpl Collado, a Traffic Police Unit personnel assigned at shopping mall, responded to the scene and confirmed the incident. 

Mobile 2123, led by PCPL Katigbak, arrived and took custody of Nelson, who was subsequently turned over to PS18 (Bajada) for further investigation. The suspect faces a charge of violating  Presidential Decree 1727 (Malicious Diversion of Attention from Lawful Activities).

On May 3, 2024, a 42-year-old male passenger bound for Singapore was detained following a bomb joke at the Davao International Airport. 

The Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP-Avsegroup) said the incident occurred at the check-in counter during the interaction between the passenger and the airline ground crew.
