A SHOCKING incident unfolded Saturday afternoon in Davao del Sur when a police officer suddenly opened fire on a Mindanao Star bus, killing a civilian passenger and wounding two fellow officers.
The chaos began in Barangay Batasan, Makilala, North Cotabato, where the suspect, identified as a police officer assigned to the General Santos City Police Office, shot a civilian passenger in the head, killing him instantly.
He then forced the bus driver to continue the journey, claiming to be an officer and stating they were being followed.
Upon reaching a police checkpoint in Barangay New Opon, Magsaysay, Davao del Sur, the suspect and his live-in partner sought help from the officers, claiming they were being pursued. However, once inside the detachment, the suspect turned on the officers, shooting and injuring two of them.
A swift response by Magsaysay MPS, along with the 1104th RMFB 11 and 1203rd RMFB12, led to the apprehension of the suspect and his partner. A 9mm Canik pistol and several other items were recovered.
The injured officers were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities are currently investigating the motive behind this violent outburst and are preparing to file appropriate charges against the suspect.
Moreover, this tragic incident has left the community in shock and raised questions about the safety of public transportation.
