A case was filed against a police officer who allegedly went berserk and pulled out his gun to threaten his neighbors in South Villa in Barangay Maa, Talomo District around 9:30 p.m. on Friday.
Meanwhile, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) warned the PNP personnel to comport themselves or they will be thrown from service.
Chief Insp. Ronald Lao, the precinct commander of the Talomo police, told TIMES yesterday that a case of grave threat was already filed through inquest proceedings on Saturday against PO3 Nelson De Vera Galban, 43, married a resident of the said place.
The complainants were identified as siblings Mark B. Nacional, 23, single; Joshua Levi B. Nacional, student; and Rachel N. Famanas, married.
Initial investigation disclosed that on Friday night, the three siblings arrived at their house. Mark was sitting down on the chair outside while looking for signal on his cell phone.
However, he heard somebody shout, “Anong ginagawa mo (What are you doing)?” from the adjacent house.
Without warning, the police officer reportedly went wild, drew his service firearm and cocked it several times while walking towards Mark.
The complainant ran inside the house and they all locked the door.
The complainants claimed that it wasn’t the first time the suspect threatened them whenever he was drunk.
Recovered from the suspect’s possession was the Glock 17 pistol with serial number PNP34867, along with the magazine loaded with 10 bullets.
Meanwhile, the suspect continued to behave unruly inside the Talomo police. He was subjected to a liquor test as part of the evidence against him.
City police director, Sr. Supt. Alexander Tagum, told reporters yesterday in an interview that he already directed the Talomo police chief to investigate and file a case against the erring personnel.
Lao was also ordered to submit the incident report to the Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB) for the filing of appropriate administrative case against him.
“To the personnel, I would like to tell you that we are trying hard, our officers and commanders are already working double time to improve the level of discipline of the personnel in the field,” he said, adding that police officers should refrain from drinking when they are off duty.
The City Police director also said that the Davao City Police office is imposing the directives of PNP Chief Oscar Albayalde against abusive and corrupt PNP personnel.
“There is no place (for you) in the Davao City Police Office and I will assure of the filing of case (against them) and their dismissal,” he added.
The suspect has been relieved of his duties from the Buhangin Police Precinct and he is currently detained in the Talomo police precinct.
