A 37-YEAR-OLD construction worker is facing an attempted murder charge after he allegedly shot a barangay councilor in Purok 13, Tibungco, early Monday morning, May 26.

Captain Hazel Caballero, spokesperson for the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), identified the suspect as alias Ritchie, a resident of Purok 9, Phase 3, Panuntungan, Tibungco.

The victim, a 56-year-old married barangay councilor and resident of Purok 13, Tibungco, has not yet been publicly identified by the police.

Initial investigation by the DCPO revealed that at approximately 6:10 a.m., the victim was about to board his vehicle when the suspect appeared from behind, brandishing a .38 caliber revolver.

The suspect reportedly pulled the trigger, but the firearm jammed.

Undaunted, the suspect then pulled out another handgun, believed to be a .45 caliber pistol. However, the victim managed to parry the firearm.

With the assistance of his son, Kirby, the victim grappled with and subdued the suspect.

During the struggle, the .45 caliber pistol reportedly discharged, but no one was hit.

Responding police officers apprehended the suspect and seized both firearms from his possession.

Recovered were a .38 caliber revolver loaded with six live ammunition and one .45 caliber pistol loaded with five live ammunition, with one fired cartridge case stuck in its barrel.

The suspect is now in police custody as charges of attempted murder are being prepared against him. Caballero said the suspect owed the victim money.
