WITH ONLY six months to go before the 2025 mid-term polls, the Commission on Elections XI is making preparations to avoid hiccups when people exercise their rights to vote on May 12, 2025.
Comelec XI regional election director Michael Abas said they visited South Korea last September to inspect the automated counting machines that would be used next year. He assured the upgraded machines won’t have any glitches compared to the ones supplied by Smartmatic in the 2010 and 2022 elections.
According to Comelec XI regional director Atty. Gay Enumerables, the office will adopt new guidelines on digital election campaigns.
“Kase ngayon, it’s not only yung house to house na campaigning or yung sa kalsada. Meron na din sa social media,” Enumerables said during the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas.
She also highlighted Comelec Resolution No. 11064, which outlines the regulations, prohibitions, and punishments for using social media, AI, and the internet for the digital election campaign in 2025.
The start of the election period would be Jan. 12, 2025. The certified list of voters will be posted on Feb 11, 2025, while the beginning of the campaign period for local positions is scheduled for March 28, 2025.
In the region, Davao City has the highest initial number of total registered voters with 1,007,784 followed by Davao del Norte with 721,737, Davao de Oro with 551,671, and Davao del Sur with 464,812.
