Coast Guard’s SAICT to help LTO XI implement traffic laws

THE COAST Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM) today inaugurated the Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT) at its headquarters in Davao City on Friday morning, July 12.

Lt Commander Angel Tobias, CGDSEM chief of staff, said the initiative aims to address the growing transportation challenges in Region XI, including illegal vehicle operations, traffic violations, and congestion at airports and seaports.

Eleven Coast Guard personnel, who recently completed an intensive on-the-job training program with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) XI and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board XI, will be deployed as traffic law enforcers in strategic locations across the city starting July 15.

Commodore Rehard Marfe, CGDSEM commander, said the deployment is expected to significantly bolster the local government’s traffic management efforts and improve road safety.

The SAICT, established through a Department of Transportation (DOTr) order, plays a crucial role in safeguarding the integrity of transportation systems and ensuring public safety.

“The committee’s launch and the deployment of newly trained Coast Guard personnel underscore the collaborative efforts between various agencies to tackle the region’s transportation challenges,” he said.

The event was attended by key figures, including LTO XI regional director Eleanor Calderon, LTFRB XI regional director Nonito Llanos, and Michael John Villar, OIC Chief SAICT, DOTr.

A pinning ceremony and oath of undertaking were conducted, marking the official commencement of SAICT’s regional operations.
