Coast Guard rescues six fishermen from sinking boat off Davao Occidental

THE COAST Guard Station Davao Occidental successfully rescued six fishermen from a sinking fishing boat, FBCA Lawrence, on July 23.

Lt Commander Angel Tobias, the spokesperson of Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM), said the vessel encountered strong winds and large waves near Tapundo Point, Balut Island, Sarangani, Davao Occidental.

The encounter caused significant damage and left the boat half-submerged and adrift.

Responding swiftly to a distress call, the Coast Guard, along with Coast Guard Sub-Station Maveas and Coast Guard Sea Marshall Unit-SEM, dispatched a rescue team onboard a motorbanca.

The team located the fishermen and safely transported them to Mabila Port on Sarangani Island, where they received necessary medical attention.

In light of this incident, the Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao urged all seafarers, particularly fishermen, to exercise extreme caution and prioritize safety during fishing operations, especially during inclement weather conditions.
