THE COAST Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM) rescued five individuals after their motorbanca (motorized outrigger) capsized off the coast of Purok Bacutan, Barangay Astorga, Sta. Cruz, on Sept. 7.
According to CGDSEM Lt. Commander Angel Tobias, Coast Guard substations Darong and Sta. Cruz conducted a joint search and rescue operation following a report of the capsized vessel.
The victims, personnel from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Municipal Coastal Fisheries Management Office (BFARMC) Astorga and the Ecological Conservation and Humanitarian Organization, were installing boundary buoys when large waves swamped their motorbanca, causing it to partially submerge.
The rescuers successfully brought all five victims to safety without any injuries.
The successful operation highlights the effective coordination and teamwork between the two Coast Guard substations.
The district commended the bravery and professionalism of its personnel involved in the rescue.
