THE CITY government recently turned over a new baggage X-ray machine to the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (DCOTT) to further strengthen commuter safety.
The new baggage scanner was installed on Jan. 6 at the passenger entrance of the terminal and is now operational.
In an interview with the City Information Office (CIO), DCOTT manager Aisa Usop said the new X-ray machine will make baggage inspections more thorough and efficient.
“First is mapaspas ang pagsulod sa atoang mga pasahero. Second, ang baggage scanner man gud lahi ra gyud (compared to) kung manual kay very sensitive so makit-an gyud kung unsa ang naa sa sulod sa mga bagahe nga ginasulod sa atoang mga pasahero (Passengers can enter quicker and second, the baggage scanner is more sensitive compared to manual, so we can quickly see the contents of the bag),” Usop said.
The machine has a capacity of around 150 to 200 kilograms and can detect both organic and inorganic materials including prohibited items like sharp objects, firearms, and ammunition.
Usop said the machine is a big help to the Task Force Davao, the City Security Unit (CSU), and police personnel manning the entrance.
The DCOTT management also assured Davaoeños that they continue to implement strict security protocols for the safety of the passengers.
“We are very particular when it comes to security measures and security implementation. That is why we have the men in uniform including the Task Force Davao, CSU, and the police. We also have a K-9 unit stationed in the terminal,” she added.
