THE CITY Tourism Operations Office supported Vice President Sara Duterte’s suggestion to transform the home of former President Rodrigo Duterte in Doña Luisa Subdivision into a new tourist attraction.
During the Davao Peace and Security Press Briefing held at The Royal Mandaya Hotel on Wednesday, City tourism officer Jennifer Romero emphasized the potential positive impact on local tourism.

“It will be a huge help because, in fact, even without being officially recognized, it’s already being visited,” Romero stated, referring to the former president’s residence.
She further elaborated, “So, if the family opts for that area as a museum, that would be an additional attraction that our tourists coming to Davao can visit.”
Romero affirmed the tourism office’s commitment to promoting such an initiative.
“By all means, we will promote it. If they would prefer it as a museum, the role of city tourism is to promote it. If other departments of the LGU (local government unit) come in and provide support to come up with the museum, we already have a new Office of Culture and the Arts as well,” she said.
“We have many departments in the LGU that can help,” Romero added. “For tourism, we can definitely promote it. That would be a good angle for our promotion.”
In an interview with reporters on May 12, the vice president revealed her proposal to Honeylet Avanceña, the common-law wife of her father, to turn the family ancestral home into a tourist spot.
“Sabi ko: ‘Buksan mo na lang para sa mga tao, para nakikita nila saan ba kumain si Pangulong Duterte, saan siya natulog,’ para mai-share namin yung buhay ni Pangulong Duterte,” she said.
