THE CITY Government will spearhead the 82nd Araw ng Kagitingan and the Philippine Veterans Week at the Dambana ng mga Bayani, Freedom Park, on April 9.
During the Kapihan sa PIA at NCCC Victoria Plaza Mall, Veterans Affairs Office head Remedios A. Josol said this year’s activity will have the theme “Pagpaparangal sa Kagitingan ng mga Beterano: Saligan ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino” honoring veterans’ bravery and sacrifices during World War 2.
According to Josol, there are educational benefits and cash assistance for veterans and their children. The veterans’ grandchildren may also use the benefits if their sons or daughters have not used the educational benefits.
“Last year, the per semester cash assistance for the student was P20,000 but for this year, this school year, naging P30,000 na po per semester. So, for one year, meron silang 60,000 from our office. For the whole part of veterans lang po yun na benefits,” she said.
Josol added there will be no awardings to occur for this year and the veterans to attend the event will be limited to 10.
The event will be spearheaded by Mayor Sebastian Duterte with a sunrise ceremony on April 5, the celebration of the Araw ng Kagitingan on April 9 at 8 am, and finally a sunset ceremony on April 11.
The Philippine Veterans Week is celebrated every year from April 5 to 11 declared by virtue of Proclamation No. 466 by President Corazon C. Aquino to promote, preserve, and memorialize the principles, ideals, and deeds of our war veterans as a means to enhance patriotism and love for country, especially among the youth.
