The City Government is using Geographic Information System (GIS) in its tax mapping to be able to collect taxes from all real property owners.Erwin Alparaque, City Treasurer’s Office (CTO) head, said the tax mapping undertaking is a joint operation of the CTO, the City Planning and Development Office, The City Engineer’s Office, the City Building Office, and the City Assessor’s Office (CAO).
“With this project, we will know properties that cannot be located because we really have to know and determine all properties within the city in order to determine necessary taxes to be imposed,” said Alparaque, adding that the CAO has deployed its personnel since last month to start the activity.
Jaime Adalin Jr., CAO officer on charge, said: “It’s true that there are properties that cannot be located because sometimes, exact address is not reflected on the deed of sale. These are some of the challenges in collecting real property tax.”
Adalin added that his agency has yet to determine how much the city government has lost in revenues due to the unidentified real properties.
