City fires employees who tested positive in drug test

MAYOR Sebastian Duterte confirmed that several local government employees tested positive for illegal drugs in a recent drug test.

These employees, apart from those from the Civil Security Unit under the Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO), will face dismissal if a confirmatory test and investigation prove their drug use.

“We will investigate. It’s not just the CSU. We have many offices that do random drug tests,” Duterte said in a media interview on Friday at the Traffic Enforcement Unit headquarters. He emphasized the seriousness of the offense, calling it a “great sin” and a betrayal of public trust.

At least 37 PSSO personnel, mostly from the Civil Security Unit, were already dismissed after testing positive from the random drug test.

PSSO head Angel Sumagaysay requested the random drug tests conducted last May 3 and 13.

The Davao City Anti-Drug Abuse Council clarified that those who tested positive can undergo voluntary drug rehabilitation.

While CADAC facilitates the process, Sumagaysay emphasized that the decision to terminate rests with the department heads.

“PSSO is part of the security cluster, and we cannot have employees involved in illegal activities,” he said.
