LAWMAKERS are asking the City Environment and Natural Resources Office ( Cenro) to present a report on actions taken in response to an alleged landslide at the sanitary landfill.
During the 15th regular session at Sangguniang Panlungsod on April 22, Councilor Bernard Al-ag said he received a report from residents of New Carmen, Tugbok District, regarding a landslide at the landfill site that occurred in November last year.
“As lawmakers, it is only proper that we take attention to this issue, it is undeniable that our landfill has reached its full and maximum capacity, as reported by Cenro,” he added.
Davao City generates an estimated 600 to 700 tons of waste daily, placing immense pressure on its solid waste management systems.
This also highlights the concern on the Matina River located at the bottom of the landfill as it will be covered with garbage in case of an environmental disaster.
To further address the issue, Al-ag requested the presence of Cenro head Engr. Marivic Reyes, along with other relevant resource speakers, at the next regular session to provide insights and clarify the agency’s actions
The council approved a motion requesting Cenro to submit an advance copy of the incident report within the week and to attend the upcoming session to present a detailed account of the measures taken on the alleged incident.
