THE CITY Health Office (CHO) registered 8,601 tuberculosis (TB) cases in Davao City last year.

According to the agency’s annual report, the notified TB cases grew compared to the 8,212 cases in 2023 and the 7,918 in 2022.

The highest number of incidents concentrated in Talomo South with 462, Buhangin with 453, and Agdao with 435.

Dr. Nikita Marie Jamiana-Reyes, CHO national TB program medical coordinator, said the treatment success rate of the TB-DOTS (Directly Observed Therapy Short-course) program is currently at 48% with 4,732 patients enrolled at TB-DOTS facilities.

Presently, CHO has trained 18 TB-DOTS facilities who can cater to drug-resistant TB patients.

Jamiana-Reyes emphasized that TB is very curable and preventable but highly infectious. Common symptoms of TB include coughs lasting three weeks or longer, chest pains, patients coughing up or phlegm or blood.

In celebration of World TB day, CHO will conduct a program and a mass screening via chest x-rays on Mar 24, 2025 at NCCC Victoria Plaza from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
