Cenro, supporters clean up elections campaign posters

Barangay officials of Barangay 5-A, Poblacion District yesterday led the removal of campaign materials in Bankerohan Public Market area right after the elections.

Officials and residents pulled down the materials posted in school premises, houses and street corners.

“(We started) cleaning up the tarpaulins put up everywhere together with the men in the barangay as well as the supporters of Councilor (Edgar) Ibuyan (Jr.),” Barangay Councilor Chica Tee said.

Councilor-elect Ibuyan, on his third term, is a former Bankerohan barangay chair. His father, Edgar Sr., is currently the Bankerohan chair but also serves as a city councilor, being the president of the Association of Barangay Captain.

Barangay Councilor Weng Hotoy added that the initiative they done could motivate other barangays in the city to do the same not only during the election period but all throughout the year.

Supporters of some councilors in the second district also collected their campaign materials posted.

On Thursday, personnel from City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) were deployed for the clean-up operation.

“We started cleaning up at 4 a.m.,” CENRO personnel Gilbert Galmador said. “So far, most of the streets are already cleaned up.”

An election officer said the clean-up operation will be faster if all candidates in the city’s three districts cooperate.

“Other (campaign materials) were already collected,” said Commission on Election (Comelec) XI Assistant Regional Director Atty. Gay Enumarables. “However, there’s still portions (of the city) that still have campaign posters,”
