THE DAVAO City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) is reinforcing and enhancing risk-resilience efforts for risk-affected communities.

Lyndon Ancajas, CDRRMO admin and training acting division head, said they prepared various activities for the National Disaster Resilience Month in July to safeguard public safety and security.

The office held a town hall session at the Ritz Hotel, together with several offices and elected officials of the 182 barangays attended, opening this month’s celebration.

The first responder rescue skills and obstacle competition will take place on July 18-20 at Crocodile Park, while the closing program will happen on Aug. 2 and is a tree-planting activity.

Ancajas noted the full scope of their operations to mitigate disaster risks, including increased siren usage, coastal camera installation, improved communication via handheld radios, and hydraulic vehicles for monitoring purposes.

The trigger for a tsunami is Governor Generoso, with PHIVOCS simulations estimating 15 – 30 minutes before the tsunami wave arrives in Davao City’s affected areas, he said.

He added Agdao, downtown areas, and Ma-a are classified as tsunami-prone areas with the new map, updated as of April 2024, from PHILVOCS.

Di na ‘ko mag-mention sa coastal area, kay karon nilampas na siya, mas nidako-dako na ang coverage, (I won’t mention the coastal area anymore, because now the scope goes beyond, the coverage has increased,) ” he said.

The office is committed to adjusting evacuation routes and databases, collaborating with other agencies to execute disaster performances, and enforcing their ordinances.

Meanwhile, the CDRRMO is also training Sangguniang Kabataans (SK) members under the community emergency response program.

Maglikay ta... That’s the message of the ordinance. It’s to tell everyone that seryoso ang Davao, (Let’s avoid… That’s the message of the ordinance. It’s to tell everyone that Davao is serious) he said.

He added, “That’s why we’re very happy na naa ta diri para matabangan nato ug spread ang invitation and pag-aware sa mga tao nga mao na ang possible na mahitabo. (That’s why we’re very happy that we’re here so that we can help spread the invitation and make people aware that it’s possible to happen). ”

CDRRMO encourages Davaoeños to participate in the citywide drill, a full-scale earthquake and tsunami simulation exercise, starting at 9 a.m. on July 26.
