A SUSPECTED car thief, identified only as alias Morsid, was killed in an alleged shootout with Toril Police Station personnel in Barangay Binugao early Saturday morning, Feb. 15, 2025.
Toril and Bansalan town police officers intercepted Morsid following a dragnet operation launched by the Police Regional Office (PRO) XI. The operation was initiated after a victim reported the theft of their blue tricycle (locally known as a “bao-bao”) from a shopping mall’s parking area in Toril.
Police immediately responded and tracked the suspect as he was driving the stolen vehicle toward Digos.
Morsid’s group had been under surveillance by the Toril Police Station due to several prior carnapping incidents in Toril in recent months.
“The apprehension of this carnapping suspect demonstrates our ongoing monitoring of these individuals over the past weeks and months,” said Major Sheryl Bautista, commander of the Toril Police Station.
“While we prioritize the protection of human rights, we will not tolerate harm to our officers during operations. When faced with a clear and present danger that could result in injury or death, we are obligated to protect our personnel,” Bautista said.
