Various types of Durian from Davao City will be exhibited in the World Trade Expo in Pasay through the initiative Department of Agriculture.
Lorna Alderite, a senior agriculturist at the City Agriculturist Office, said that the exhibit is meant to showcase Davao’s harvest and also expand trade opportunities. Recently, the Mindanao Development Authority also brought local fruits to Baguio City.
“Durian’s price varies from it’s quality and taste,” she said, but she expects the durian sold at the World Trade Expo to fetch a higher price.
Durian costs 120 per kilo in other cities compared to the P40 in the local market. After the peak season, the amount further drops to less than P40. Aside from durian, other fruits like the pomelo, lanzones, and mangosteen are also generating interests form consignees from the other cities in the country.
In line with the exhibit, the local farmers will bring the produce to the World Trade Expo in October this year. They will also be provided with training and inputs to prepare them for the event. The DA will shoulder all expenses of their travel, accommodation, and the exhibit fee.
“This will also be a great help for the farmers,” she said as durian growers will gain more knowledge to maximize their harvest.
