The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP)-Davao has partnered with other security forces to impose stricter security measures at the Francisco Bangoy International Airport following the Sulu suicide bombing incident.
“Right now, we are enhancing our security measures especially in the initial vehicle screening area,” Airport Manager Rex Obcena said.
Obcena said CAAP does not take chances in view of the increasing number of passengers, including domestic and foreign tourists, flying in and out of the Davao airport every day.
“The Sulu suicide bombing prompted CAAP to level up airport security,” Obcena said.
Aiding the CAAP Davao in securing the airport include Task Force Davao, the Public Safety and Security Command Center, and other agencies in the security sector.
“Although CAAP is the primary agency in securing the terminal building, security forces are detailed to ensure that no terror attack or unfortunate incidents could take place anywhere in its periphery,” Obcena added.
Mayor Sara Duterte is wanting a stricter security measures in the city airport similar to the Singapore airport.
The Police Regional Office earlier issued a full alert status in the region following the Sulu bombing inside a military camp. At least eight were killed in the incident, said to be the first case of a suicide bombing in the country.
