Businessman in police custody surrenders P6.9-M worth of shabu

THE ARREST of a businessman for drug possession led to the biggest single-haul for shabu this year as the Toril Police Station recovered P6.949 million worth of the illegal substance on Wednesday, July 3.

The suspect, identified only as alias Jose, 51, a resident of NHA Ma-a, was initially arrested on July 1 at a Task Force Davao and Toril Police Station checkpoint for P100,000 worth of shabu and a firearm.

During questioning, the suspect confessed to hiding more drugs in his residence.

Police officers searched the premises on the morning of July 4 and discovered a jumbo-sized package containing the suspected drugs. He claimed that the drugs were shipped from Manila to Cagayan before reaching him.

The Toril Police Station is conducting further investigation into the matter.

In an interview, Captain Francisco Catabas Jr., the Toril Police Station chief, said the suspect previously worked for a buy-and-sell business.

‘Yung worth P6 million na shabu part of recovery nya dahil sa interview na ginawa sa kanya nasabi nya na meron sa bahay nya,” Catabas said.
