Bus passenger nabbed with concealed firearm while passing through Lasang checkpoint

A BUS passenger was arrested at the Lasang checkpoint early Saturday morning for violating Republic Act 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and the standing Comelec Gun Ban.

Joint Task Force Davao (TFD) and the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) personnel arrested the suspect at  6:30 a.m. on June 7, 2025, while on routine inspection in Barangay Lasang, Bunawan District.

The suspect was identified only as alias Jerome, a 36-year-old resident of Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.

Authorities were alerted when a duty scanner operator detected a concealed firearm among the belongings of the passenger on board a commuter bus heading toward Davao City. They recovered one .357 Infinity SV firearm with serial number 241758, along with a magazine and seven rounds of live ammunition.

Col. Rodrigo Mariñas Jr., commander of Task Force Davao, highlighted the instrumental role of the scanning equipment and the continuous vigilance of TFD personnel in maintaining the city’s security.

“The use of advanced scanner equipment continues to be a vital asset in securing Davao City from the entry of contraband, firearms, and other prohibited items,” Mariñas Jr. stated.

The apprehended suspect and the confiscated evidence have been turned over to Police Station 6, Bunawan police of the DCPO for proper disposition and the filing of the appropriate charge.
