PHILIPPINE Navy vessel BRP Herminigildo Yurong (PG906) completed its 2nd Quarter Naval Gun Test Firing, demonstrating a high level of operational readiness.
Major Salvacion Evangelista, the spokesperson of Eastern Mindanao Command, said the exercise, a routine quarterly activity, is crucial for assessing the functionality, reliability, and overall performance of the ship’s weapon systems.
The Naval Gun Test Firing also serves as a key metric for BRP Herminigildo Yurong (PG906) in evaluating the proficiency and skills of the personnel operating the onboard weaponry.
Before the exercise, the crew of PG906 displayed ingenuity by fabricating targets using readily available materials such as used drums, water containers, and plywood.
Furthermore, meticulous pre-firing procedures were conducted to guarantee the optimal operability of all weapon stations.
During the Naval Gun Test Firing, the Typhoon and Mini-Typhoon Weapon Systems, key components of the vessel’s defense capabilities, were actively operated and fired.
These systems underwent rigorous testing at various distances to ascertain the accuracy and precision of both the weapon systems themselves and the operators’ ability to effectively track and engage the fabricated targets.
The successful completion of this quarterly Naval Gun Test Firing underscores the dedication of the crew and command of BRP Herminigildo Yurong (PG906) in maintaining consistently high standards of battle readiness.
As the vessel prepares for future operations, the honed skills of its personnel and the well-maintained state of its equipment will be vital in ensuring its combat effectiveness in any situation that may arise at sea, contributing to the maritime security of the Davao Region and the nation.
