Brokenshire Medical Center (BMC) opens its newly Acute Stroke Unit, a facility dedicated to provide specialized care for stroke patients in the community.
The event was kicked off with a ribbon cutting ceremony on September 19 at Brokenshire Medical Center, Davao City.
The Acute Stroke Unit will be set to operate 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, with four rooms equipped with diagnostic and treatment equipment including monitoring devices for accurate diagnoses, and a high-end MRI machine that will soon supplement the services on stroke.
Dr. Michael N. Jamiana, Medical Director of Brokenshire Medical Center said the BMC Acute Stroke Unit represents a major leap forward in their commitment to provide the ‘highest level’ of care to the community.
“Stroke is a time-sensitive condition, and with this new unit, we can ensure that patients receive the critical care they need as quickly as possible,” Jamiana said.
Ronald Manuel Santos, BMC chief executive officer also shared that BMC stands out as the most well-equipped hospital in terms of stroke readiness in Davao City.
“Stroke happens to be the Philippines’ second leading cause of death, and first cause of morbidity. As I gathered the Department of Neurosciences, natural stroke incidents, they place it between the range of 3.95-percent to 5.61-percent, and the prevalence rate in our country is from 0.5-percent to about 6-percent,” Santos said.
He added that they may help to address the issue of stroke by providing prompt and comprehensive care to their patients.
Several guests from the medical community, local leaders, members of the Department of Health (DOH) XI, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and First District Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte’s son, Rigo, graced the remarkable event.
