IN PREPARATION for the opening of School Year 2025-2026, the Department of Education (DepED) has scheduled the week-long Brigada Eskwela Program from June 9-13.
DepEd issued Memorandum No. 042 series of 2025, or Brigada Eskwela Implementing Guidelines, consistent with DepEd Order No. 012 or Multi-Year Implementing Guidelines on the School Calendar and Activities.
Brigada Eskwela is a five-day activity that upholds the spirit of bayanihan, encouraging community collaboration to prepare schools for the upcoming school year.
“With literacy as a key priority of the Department, this year’s theme, Brigada Eskwela: Sama-sama Para sa Bayang Bumabasa, highlights a nationwide effort and volunteerism on literacy development,” the memo reads.
The program consists of the usual preparation and improving the school facilities and environment, to support the physical and mental well-being of learners, and address the concerns of parents and stakeholders.
DepEd reiterated that school heads, teachers, and other school personnel are strictly prohibited from soliciting or collecting any form of contribution including, but not limited to, Brigada Eskwela fees from parents or legal guardians, volunteers, partners, and stakeholders.
The activities will be solely voluntary work and participation, it stressed.
DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara in a Facebook message said teaching the children is a collective responsibility that should not end with Brigada Eskwela.
“Hindi po dito nagtatapos ang ating bayanihan dahil kahit ligtas at malinis na ang ating mga eskwelahan, alalahanin natin na itoy patungo sa pagtaas ng kalidad ng ating edukasyon kaya collective responsibility natin lahat na bawat bata maturuan na matuto,” Angara stressed.
The opening for SY 25-26 is scheduled on June 16, 2025.
