SENATOR Christopher “Bong” Go has reiterated his call for heightened fire safety measures as his Malasakit Team distributed assistance to the victims of a recent fire in Barangay 28-C and Barangay 2-A, Poblacion District, Davao City, on Wednesday, July 17.
In a video message, Go stressed the government’s commitment to strengthening the Bureau of Fire Protection.
He highlighted the ongoing modernization efforts under Republic Act No. 11589, which he principally authored, aimed at addressing fire incidents and their impact across the Philippines.
The law also mandates regular fire prevention campaigns and informational drives in collaboration with the Department of the Interior and Local Government and local government units.
“Sa mga nasunugan, alam ko po kung gaano kahirap ang inyong pinagdadaanan pero kung tayo ay mananatiling magtutulungan, siguradong malalagpasan din natin ang krisis na ito. Laging tatandaan na hindi nabibili ng pera ang buhay. A lost life is a lost life forever kaya mag-ingat po tayo palagi,” Go said.
Held at the J.P Rizal Elementary School and Bolton Elementary School Gym, 248 residents were given snacks, water containers, grocery packs, vitamins, shirts, masks, and volleyballs and basketballs. There were also select recipients of shoes, phones, and watches.
Meanwhile, Barangay 28-C beneficiaries also received additional financial assistance from the Malasakit Team.
Go, as chair of the senate committee on health and demography, encouraged those in need of medical assistance to contact his office or visit the Malasakit Center in the city located at Southern Philippines Medical Center.
The Malasakit Centers, established through the RA 11463, or the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, which Go principally authored and sponsored, are designed to simplify access to medical assistance programs.
There are currently 166 centers nationwide, and the DOH reported that the Malasakit Center program has already provided aid to more or less ten million Filipinos.
Senator Go assured, “Handang tumulong sa inyo ang mga Malasakit Center. Lapitan niyo lang ho ito at tutulungan kayong pababain ang inyong hospital bill. Sa inyo itong Malasakit Center.”
He also recognized the efforts of Brgy. 28-C Captain Nelliegar Unciano and Brgy. 2-A Captain Caloy Garcia, and their office who have been instrumental in aiding the recovery process.
